Studio J’s architectural technologist, Tom Booth, is now a certified passive house designer. In order to be certified Tom has undertaken numerous hours of lectures, coursework and a final exam.

Pass­ive house is a standard for energy ef­fi­cient build­ings. It provide users with high levels of com­fort and ex­cel­lent air qual­ity, that is above the normal standards required by building regulations. A passive house designer can en­sure that the high re­quire­ments for the build­ing can be met.

With good quality and carefully thought out design, the appearance of the building could look no different to a “standard” building. However, it is always best to know if you are designing for passive house as soon as possible within the design process, as there are many aspects to consider that will impact on the layout and general appearance of the building.
